Arrival in Livingstone, Zambia
Day 1

Arrival in Livingstone, Zambia

Arrive Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport (LVI). Warmly welcomed by Rooted Journeys team and local staff. Short transfer to accommodation in Livingstone. Once settled, first team meeting — strangers begin becoming community. Orientation to the week ahead. Fun and engaging introduction to Nyanja, one of Zambia's local languages. Learning a few words will transform how you connect with the community.

Orientation & Cultural Immersion
Day 2

Orientation & Cultural Immersion

Breakfast. 90-minute introduction sessions — deep dive into the work, the community, and the impact for the week. Livingstone town visit — pick up snacks from a local supermarket, explore daily Zambian life firsthand. Afternoon: vibrant tourist craft market — colorful, lively, handmade treasures. Support local artisans while practicing Nyanja phrases. Grounding in community before hands-on impact work begins.

Ecobricks & Village Experience
Day 3

Ecobricks & Village Experience

Breakfast. Morning: Ecobricking sustainability initiative — plastic bottles filled tightly with waste plastic to create reusable building blocks. Every 5 Ecobricks = 1 kilogram of recycled waste removed from the environment. Past teams have helped build benches, garden walls, compost bins, chicken coops, tree rings, kitchen counters. Your hands directly shape something lasting. Afternoon: guided village tour in a Livingstone community — hosted by a local women's cooperative (income-generating for the cooperative). 2-hour experience — learn daily life, taste traditional snacks, hear stories from the women themselves.
